Obituary for Leola Watson
Mrs. Leola Watson was born July 4, 1916 in Greenville, MS to the union of Mr. Mannie Young and Mrs. Connie Harrington Young. She was educated in the Monroe Louisiana School System, but her thirst for knowledge did not end there. As a wife and mother of six children, Leola continue to expand her knowledge by learning how to provide whatever was needed to help her family survive. She had a lifelong desire to see different parts of the country, and did so by traveling whenever she could, experiencing new places, people, and sharing her quilting expertise and cooking skills. Leola was a woman who had a passion for caring for others, and showed it in her devotion to her family and friends. Leola confessed Christ at an early age, and shortly after moving to Gould, AR with her family she joined Jericho Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Earl Mitchell. She loved to worshipped the Lord and taught her children and grandchildren to do the same. Although health issues forced her to relocate to Virginia, she remained a faithful member of Jericho until her death. On December 17, 1934, she joined in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Joseph Watson who was a loving husband for fifty-seven years. Their love for God, family and each other created a bond that would never be broken. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe Watson; daughter, Vergie Watson; sons, Joe Watson Jr., Louis Jordan Watson, Sylvester Watson; sisters, Altee, Hazel, Nancy and Viola; brothers, Eddie, Demarcus, Robert and Joe; granddaughters, Yolanda Faye and Linda Faye Watson; great grandsons, Justin Watson and Garnel Kline. Her loving memories will be forever cherished by her surviving daughters, Mrs. Luevenia Young (Paul) of Las Vegas, NV, Mrs. Jeri Lynn Anderson (Willie) of Omaha, NB; grandsons, Willie Watson (Nita) of Las Vegas, NV, Ray Watson (Londa) of Las Vegas, NV, Calvin Watson of California, Ronnie Watson of Arizona, Charlie Ray Watson of Pine Bluff, AR, Clarence Anderson, Michael Hickman and Jermaine Hickman of Omaha, NB; granddaughters, Nora McKenzie, Alisa Young, Paula Young and Sandra Young of Las Vegas, NV, Linda Harris of Blackstone, VA, Kathy Anderson, Alice McDaniels (Jimmy) and Patricia Bridgeman (James) of Omaha, NB, Sandra Watson of Gould, AR and Annette Moore of Pine Bluff, AR; thirteen great granddaughters; twelve great grandsons; fifteen great great grandchildren; devoted companions, Ms Maxine Blackwell and Ms. Glenda Yates, one devoted niece, Florence Johnson of Detroit, MI as well as a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Gould AR with interment in the Jericho Baptist Church Cemetery, AR.W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
