Obituary for Lawrence M. Mawhinney, Jr.
Lawrence “Larry” M. Mawhinney Jr., age 55, departed to his Heavenly home on January 2, 2022, at the Southside Regional Hospital in Petersburg, VA. He was born in Brick, NJ to Lawrence Sr. and Marianne Kirsch (nee Mawhinney) and was the middle child of three. Larry played football and participated in JROTC at Brick Memorial High School in Brick Township, New Jersey.
After graduating high school, in 1984, Larry immediately committed to the US Army Military Police Corps and proudly served as a military policeman the remainder of his life. Larry deployed to Germany, Iraq/Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Cuba. One of his most cherished assignments was with the 101st MP Company (Air Assault) Ft. Campbell, KY in 1985. Larry was a motivated and passionate Senior NCO, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant/First Sergeant. Since 2009, Larry also worked for the Dept. of Army Civilian Police at Ft. Lee, VA as a Lead Sergeant in patrol.
Larry loved spending time with family, sharing the knowledge he obtained in the U.S. Army, tending to his pigs and chickens, and giving history lessons when traveling.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence M. Mawhinney, and older sister Tamara “Tami” Ann Sisti (nee Mawhinney). Survivors include his wife Amber Lewis-Mawhinney, his mother Marianne Kirsch and his sister Colleen Pastor, both of Brick Township, NJ. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
