Obituary for Laura M. Coleman
Laura M. Coleman was a graduate of Luther H. Foster High School. She joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age. Later, she became a member of Commandment Apostolic Worship Center where she was ordained as a Missionary. She served the Lord faithfully through singing, evangelizing and praising him.
Laura had long tenures at Levi Strauss, Central State Hospital, and retired from McGuire VA Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Aid.
Laura was born to the late Charlie and Fannie Farley Mason. She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Charles B. Mason, Tommy S Mason, and Hamlene R Mason.
Laura is survived by her husband, Richard Coleman, Jr., of Blackstone VA; one sister Martha Hawkes of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in-law; Clara Blackwell (James), Blackstone, VA and Mary E . Mason, Woodbridge, VA; six children, Sondra Moody (Lawrence), Waldorf Md., Charlie Mason, Fannie Greenhow and Tomega Coleman of Petersburg, VA, Catrina Miller (Darrell), Blackstone VA, Devon Coleman (Sonya) Goochland, VA; eleven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Laura was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved singing with a passion. She had many sayings that would have you laughing continually. One of her quick wit sayings was,” The new broom sweeps good, but the old broom carries the dust!”
Funeral Services Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Commandment Apostolic Worship Center, Blackstone with interment in the Mt. Level Baptist Church Cemetery, Amelia.
