Obituary for Laura Lee Fowlkes
Laura Lee Quarles Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA transitioned from this life on Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA. She was born to the late Bessie Marie Quarles and Robert Johnson on August 23, 1943 in Nottoway County, Blackstone, VA.
Laura Lee was married to the late Freddie Fowlkes, Jr. of Kenbridge, VA. She worked various factory jobs throughout the community. She was last employed at Bassett Furniture in Burkeville, VA from where she retired.
Laura Lee furthered her education at Southside Skill Center in Crewe, VA where she learned a trade in nursing.
Laura Lee attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Blackstone, VA and Sunday School for many years. She loved cooking, cleaning, crosswords puzzles, reading her bible and babysitting her grandchildren. She was an angel to all those who knew her. She always spoke what was on her mind, whether good or bad. She had a sense of humor that was unimaginable. Not a dry eye was left in the room. She impacted a lot of people who knew her and also those who didn’t.
Laura Lee was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, one niece and one nephew. She leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, Thomas L. Quarles (Jackie) of Port Orange, FL; three children, Teresa Fowlkes, Dirk Fowlkes (Paulette) and Crystal Watkins, all of Blackstone, VA; six grandchildren, Felicia Knight of North Carolina, Felix Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA, Deidre Fowlkes of North Carolina, Jakeem West of Blackstone, VA, Deresha Fowlkes and Trayvion Watkins-Jennings all of Blackstone, VA; four nephews, Samuel Quarles (Delphine) of Richmond, VA, Alonzo Quarles (Linda) of Kenbridge, VA, Randy Hicks of Maryland, Dwayne Anderson (Tracy) of Blackstone, VA; a host of great grandchildren, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
