Obituary for Landus A. Hicks
Surrounded by the love of his family on Friday afternoon, October 26, 2012, God’s Angel of death was dispatched to bring home the humble soul of Landus Andrew “L.A.” Hicks who had completed his earthly journey. L.A., son of the late James Rice and Rosa Hicks was born in Nottoway County on June 20, 1932.
L.A. was educated in the Nottoway County Public Schools. At a young age he was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church.
On December 24, 1954, he was united in holy matrimony to Daisy Mae Stewart, from this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife Daisy Mae and his son Keith Hicks, Sr.
His lifetime love for his family and friends was very passionate. He tremendously enjoyed his grandchildren, especially Jimae “Booty” and his beloved friend, Clara Willingham. With his optimistic attitude and sense of humor he enjoyed telling stories of his childhood life and the experiences of many of his family members.
He leaves to cherish his memories: James Stewart, Landus Hicks, Sr., Rosa (Jimmy) Lawson, Charlotte (Thomas) Hughes, Wendell Hicks, and Valerie Booth, all of Blackstone, VA; fifteen grandchildren, Corey, Spring, Summer, Keith, Nelson, Jimae, Dialeta, Thomasena, Chartisha, Thomas, Angela, Eunice, Traevon, Terry and Tarsha; eighteen great grandchildren; brothers, Sammy Lee Hicks of Blackstone, VA, Sammy (Louise) Morgan Jr. of Richmond, VA, Gilbert (Evelyn) Morgan of Blackstone, VA; sisters, Dorothy Craig of Lunenburg and Lucy Clay of Nashville, TN; a host of nieces and nephews, four of whom he helped raise, Alice. Lewis, Willamae, and Flo; sisters-in-law, Lucille Gash of Richmond, VA and Alice Knose of Blackstone, VA; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hicks of Blackstone; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church Cemetery, Blackstone.
