Obituary for Landus A. Hicks, Jr.
On Monday morning, September 16, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family, God’s Angel of death once again was dispatched to this family to bring home the humble soul of Landus “Bump” Hicks Jr., who had completed his earthly journey.  Landus Jr., son of the late Landus Sr. and Daisy Mae Stewart Hicks, was the second of seven children born to them.  He was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Hicks; a cousin, Aaron Cooper; and one aunt, Lucille Stewart Gash.
Bump was educated at Luther H. Foster High School in Nottoway County.  He was baptized at a young age at Shiloh Baptist Church.
After school, he moved to Richmond with his aunt, Lucille Stewart Gash where he was employed for several years at Brick Mason Company.  After he returned to Blackstone, he was employed at Commonwealth Tobacco in Kenbridge and Tyson Food in Crewe.
Bump was a member of Eastcoast Health Bicycle Riders, where he served as Sergeant at Arms.
He had a lifetime love for his family, especially his sister Rosa, whom he always called his “Little Angel”.  His family and friends will miss him saying, “Hey Babe, Love you and be good”.  We will miss his dance “Hola Hoop”.  At all family gatherings, he was known to get out his guitar and play music and more music for his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memories:  his son Corey Patterson; two grandchildren, Khalier Harris and JaQuan Ross; sisters and brothers, Rosa (Jimmy) Lawson, Charlotte (Thomas) Hughes, Wendell Hicks, Valerie (Walter) Douglas and James Stewart, all of Blackstone; three aunts, Dorothy Craig of Lunenburg, Alice Knose of Blackstone and Lucy Clay of Nashville, TN; two uncles, Sammy Lee Hicks and Gilbert (Evelyn) Morgan of Blackstone; sister-in-law, Brenda Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
