..It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lafayette “LA” Allen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. LA, known to many, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2025, at the age of 61.
Lafayette was born on May 22, 1963, youngest boy of 6, to the late James Edward Eanes and Alice Virginia Allen. He was husband to a dedicated wife, Janis Allen, with whom he shared 22 years of marriage, having been together for 45 years since 1980. Lafayette was the proud father of daughter LaTisha Coleman (Curtis Fowlkes), sons Anthony Allen and Julian Quig, and bonus daughter/niece Shawda' Haskins. He adored his grandsons, Cameron and Cayden Fowlkes, along with his two God- daughters, Tiera and Tiarna Bland. He will be greatly missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A graduate of Nottoway High School, Class of 1983, Lafayette was an active member of the Nottoway Sportsman Hunting Club, where he enjoyed his love of the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. He was known as the life of the party, always bringing joy, laughter, and a warm presence to any gathering.
Lafayette’s career spanned several decades, with early work at Piedmont Geriatrics in the late 80s through the early 2000s, followed by a dedicated tenure at the Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation until his retirement. He also worked for Nottoway County Public School systems as a painter under the supervision of Michael Stith. His passion for hands-on work extended to side jobs in construction and growing plants.
Lafayette is survived by his loving mother, Virginia Allen; siblings Eartha Allen, Stephen Allen, Lillian Allen, and Collette Jones; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gertrude Allen, father, James Edward Eanes, and his brother, Spencer Allen.
Memorial service held at Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church on May 13, 2025. Burial will be held at the Allen Family cemetery immediately following the service. We welcome you to fellowship with refreshments at the church to follow.
He will forever be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, and his love of keeping things. May he rest in peace.
