Obituary for Keith Sr. Hicks
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in his infinite wisdom called from labor to reward a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, relative and devoted friend from this side of the Jordon River. Deacon Keith L. Hicks, Sr., affectionately known as “Mr. Keisy”, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 22, 2012 at VCU/MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA after a brief illness.
Deacon Keith L. Hicks, Sr. was born to Landus A. Hicks, Sr. and the late Daisy Mae Hicks on May 24, 1956.
He attended Nottoway County Public Schools, Nottoway, VA. On September 29, 1976 he married his best friend, companion and soul mate, Brenda L. Hicks and to this union three children were born.
He was employed for several years with different companies as laborer and carpenter to provide for his family. He recently was employed with Kenston Forest Public School, Blackstone, VA as custodian. He was multi-talented with different gifts such as barber, builder and devoted handyman throughout the neighborhood and community.
Deacon Hicks was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA at an early age. He worked diligently and faithfully in the church with his wife, Brenda beside him. He served his church in many capacities which included Deacons Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Music Ministry, Youth Ministry, Outreach Ministry, Hospitality Ministry and Sexton .
On April 11, 2010 he was ordained a Deacon into the Deacons Ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA under the former leadership of Dr. Rev. Walter D. Gordone. Deacon Hicks loved the Lord, his family, his Church Family, his friends and continued to praised, testified, worshipped through fellowship with everyone he met until his health declined. He treated everyone with the respect of God because he knew how the Lord had blessed his life. He believed in his heart, “Judge not, that yea be not judged”.
He left a great legacy and influence on his family, church family, friends and touched each of them in his own special way. Deacon Hicks was preceded in death by Mrs. Daisy Hicks, Mother, Mrs. Rosa Morgan, Grandmother, Mr. James Wright, Grandfather, Mrs. Alberta Henderson, Mother-in-law, Mr. Harvey Smith, Father-in-law, Mr. Richard Henderson, Brother-in-law, and Mr. Thurman L. Oliver, Sr., Son-in-law.
Left to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Brenda L. Hicks of Blackstone, VA, two devoted daughters, LaShanna (Vincente’) Neal and Summer Oliver, all of Blackstone, VA, devoted son, Keith L. Hicks, Jr. of Blackstone, VA; five grandchildren, Quatum Hicks, Keon Coleman, Thurman L Oliver, III, Lemaria Neal and Keiasha Hicks all of Blackstone, VA; father, Landus A. Hicks, Sr. of Blackstone, VA; three sisters, Rosa (Jimmie) Lawson and Valerie Booth, all of Blackstone, VA; Charlotte (Thomas) Hughes of Crewe, VA; three brothers, Jimmy Stewart, Landus A. Hicks, Jr. and Wendell Hicks all of Blackstone, VA; four sister-in-laws, Annie Henderson, Barbara (Robert) Henderson, and Fannie Marshall all of Blackstone, VA, Evelyn (Stephen) Stokes of Crewe, VA; three brother-in-laws, Raymond (Carolyn) Henderson, of Bronx, NY, Horace Henderson and Edward (Charlene) Henderson all of Blackstone, VA; three aunts, Lucille Gash of Richmond, VA, Alice Knows of Blackstone, VA and Dorothy E. Craig of Lunenburg, VA; one uncle, Samuel Hicks of Blackstone, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Three devoted friends, Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Foster, Jr., Deacon Jack & Rev. Funeral Services Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
