Obituary for Katie Irene Jones
Katie Irene Willis Jones, daughter of the late Thomas and Lauvenia Willis was born on August 27, 1940. She departed this life on Friday, August 23, 2019 at The Woodland Nursing Home in Farmville, VA.
Katie was educated in Nottoway County and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1960. She was baptized at a young age and joined New Prospect Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.
Katie was united in Holy Matrimony in 1961 to Kenneth Jones, and from this union two children were born, Andrea and Kenneth. She had a stepson, Demetrius Jones.
Katie was a loving and devoted mother. For a while she lived in New York and Baltimore, later she returned to Virginia. For a while Katie was employed at the United Post Office in Richmond, VA. She also worked at Fort Lee and Fort Pickett, where she put in over thirty years between the two. She loved her work, loved getting her nails done, traveling and visiting friends and family.
Katie was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hardy and Mercelle Willis; two brothers, Robert and William Willis; and a grandson, Brian Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Andrea Fowlkes (Sam) of Hopewell, VA; one son, Kenneth Jones, Jr. of Blackstone, VA; four grandchildren, Shomonique, Desirae, Samuel Jr., and Brandy; five great grandchildren, Sam III, Deandra, Danquaria, Faith and Saemir; one sister-in-law, Minnie Jefferson; one brother-in-law, Otis Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
