Obituary for Karen Dowtin Epes
Karen Dowtin Epes was born August 29, 1968 in D.C. to Louis and Cassie Dowtin. She departed this life on Monday, November 12, 2018.
Karen grew up in the D.C. area and later moved to Blackstone, VA. Karen worked several jobs and was mainly known for being the best cook at Huddle House and working at Kangaroo Convenient store in Blackstone.
To know her was to love her. She had a heart of gold and didn’t mind helping others.
Her family and friends will always remember her as an energetic, open-spirit person. She was a piece of a very big puzzle that is known as her family.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Cassie Dowtin; her son, Oris Dowtin;
two brothers, James E. Dowtin and Danny L. Dowtin; one sister-in-law, Helen Epes. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Curtis Epes, Sr.; son, Delonte’ Dowtin; a very special niece whom she was raising, Blessings Dowtin; three step-children, Gilbert Epes, Curtis Epes, Jr. and Chris Epes; two grandchildren, Zamir Stith and Trinitee Dowtin; two sisters, Deneen and Nancy Dowtin; one brother; father-in-law, Gilbert Epes; sister-in-law, Ella Jones; two brothers-in-law, Ray and Kent Epes; one god-sister, Crystal Murphy-Thomas of D.C.; two god-children, Alycia Young of D.C. and Jah’Kee Williams of Blackstone; five aunts, Lucille Battle, Rebecca Dowtin, Emma French, Ruth Lansdown and Clara Winningham; one uncle, James Dowtin; one great aunt, Beatrice Dent; a devoted childhood best friend, Danielle Hill of D.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
