Obituary for Junious E. Johnson
God called Junious Edward Johnson to rest on Sunday, December 8, 2019. Junious, the son of the late Andrew and Pearline Johnson, was born on January 29, 1952 and grew up in Powhatan County. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rovenia J. Vaughan and grandson, Rashad J. Brown.

Junious was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at a young age. He attended Powhatan County Schools and graduated from Powhatan High School in 1970. He was employed as a truck driver by Great Coastal Express for several years and earned several Safe Driver awards there. In his prime, Junious loved Mopar muscle cars. He owned and raced 1969 and 1970 Plymouth Road Runners and a HEMI Belvedere. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father. He was a talented mechanic and has repaired cars for many family and friends over the years. Later in life, he worked for Pence Ford and Colony Construction for several years.

Junious cared deeply for his family and friends. He was welcoming to everyone and was affectionately known as “Buddy-Ro” because that’s how he referred to pretty much everyone he met – they were his buddy. He also very much loved his trusted companion and pet, “Goldie”, whom he seldom went anywhere without.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted daughter, Tanya Johnson Ross (Kevin), daughters Cheryl Fields and Danita Brown, a son Mel Brown; granddaughters Kennedy and Karrington Ross; a grandson Rahmel Brown (Fonseca); a great-granddaughter Alyssa Wood; ex-wife Shirley Johnson; a devoted nephew Mark Gillis; devoted friends Harold Nash and Claudette Holmes; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 2020 Red Lane Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139. Interment church cemetery.

Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
