Judith A. Jefferson, a women full of light and boundless love, passed away at home on Thursday, September 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Judith leaves behind a legacy that deeply touched the lives of those around her. Born on December 30, 1943, to the late Frank and Katherine (Kennedy) Weekes, Judith’s life journey touched many within her family, her Church and here community.

Judith moved to New Rochelle, NY from Warren Ohio, at the young age of nine. At that time, Judith began to make her mark in the world as she began lifelong friendships which she has maintained through the day of her passing. Judith enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and looked forward to trips to Playland and annual events such as the New Rochelle Memorial Day Parade. As a child, Judith attended St. Simons Episcopal Church with her parents and participated in youth activities in the Community. Judith matriculated through New Rochelle Public Schools attending Lincoln Elementary School, Albert Leonard Junior High School and New Rochelle High School.

After graduating from New Rochelle Highschool in 1962, Judith began her professional career at NBW Bank in New Rochelle NY. She continued in this position while embarking on a new journey in young adulthood. Judith remained in New Rochelle until moving to Mt Vernon to begin a new chapter of her life.

At age 15, Judith began her journey with the love of her life, Clarence Jefferson Sr. Judith and Clarence were married after a 5- year courtship on December 26, 1964, and then moved to Mt. Vernon New York. In 1968, they were blessed with their first child Tracey. In 1970, Judith and Clarence moved to St. Albans, Queens to build a home with hopes creating a stable, loving environment for a growing family. In 1973, Clarence Jr. was born, and the Fonda Ave adventure began. Judith and Clarence raised their children on Fonda Ave., which resulted in countless invaluable experiences and lifelong friendships. Judith began her career in the medical field in the 1970’s holding a number of positions to include X-ray Clerk, Radiology Technician and Medical Coder, all within two major New York hospital systems. Judith retired in the 1990’s and remained in her home until re-locating to Chesterfield, VA in July 2023.

In her Fonda Ave. neighborhood, Judith was affectionately known as “Mama J”. Throughout her 51 years as a resident, she, alike her husband, became a pillar of support, a compassionate neighbor, and a mentor to countless young individuals, who she affectionately referred to as her “bonus children”. Judith did not take this responsibility lightly and she took every opportunity to be a living example of light and love. Judith took pride in sharing “nuggets” of wisdom to anyone who was willing to receive them. Judith relished in hosting her family for various occasions. Christmas was her favorite holiday. Judith was lovingly known for her potato salad, lasagna and carrot cake. Family gatherings were always special for her as she took on the role of family historian, making sure that her family had knowledge of their rich lineage. Judith was inclusive, warm and welcoming of everyone who crossed her path.

In 1983, Judith accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Highland Avenue Baptist Church along with her family. At this time, Judith began her Christian journey and her love for the Word of God. After a short time, Judith transitioned to another congregation and became a faithful member of Majority Baptist Church. Affectionately known as “Sister Jefferson”, Judith served in various capacities to include Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and the head of Christian Education. Judith loved to study the Word of God and took great pleasure of teaching Bible study with a transparent and practical approach. Judith remained a faithful member of her congregation until relocating to Virginia in 2023. After relocating, Judith joined Faith and Family Church to fellowship with her daughter Tracey and her family.

Judith is predeceased by her loving husband Clarence Jefferson Sr., brother Clarence Weekes, (Beverly), brother-in-law Michael (Hazel), William (Dorothy) Jefferson, Charles Beverly (Carolyn), as well as her sister-in-law Laura. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children Tracey (Tyrone) and Clarence Jr. (Monique). Her sister-in-law Carolyn (Charles), Inez (Leroy), Hermania, and brother-in-law Herman. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren Deja, DeAnthony (Princess), Justice (Mercedes), and great-grandchildren Storm, Sonai, Samiya and Zepheya. Judith also has a host of nephews, nieces and cousins and lifelong friends that will cherish here memory.

Judith played a significant role in many lives. She was lovingly known as Judy, Mommy, Gram, GiGi, Aunt Judy, Cousin Judy, Mama J and Sister Jefferson. Judith was consistent in her being and stood on the principal that, “All will be well”.
