Obituary for Josephine R. Forrest
On Friday, June 24, 2022 at 6:24 am, Josephine Rebecca Booth Forrest affectionately known as “Phine”, was quietly carried away to a magnificent garden that God had prepared for her.

“Phine” was the fifth child born to the late Dossie Robert Stanley Booth and Bernice Moore Booth. Her education began in Nottoway County and she graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1964.

In her youth, she professed her belief in Jesus Christ, was baptized and joined the Mt. Zion RZUA in Blackstone, VA where she sang with her family. Years later, she joined High Rock Baptist Church with her husband and continued her service of singing with the B.S. Hill Inspiration Choir and Senior Choir.

She ministered the love of Christ through song with groups such as the Spiritual Sisters (1968 - early 80s) and The Spiritual Travelettes (mid 1980s – 1990s), and she would go “if she had to go by herself” to sing and be a worship leader. She worked in the church as long as her health would allow.

She was also a member of the Missionary Ministry; Pastor’s Aides Committee and she used her gift and love of cooking by working on the Hospitality Committee. She not only cooked for her church family but was always ready to cook for events in the community or for families in need.

“Phine” wore many hats and worked various jobs from being a beautician to a factory worker but her passion was being a housewife and childcare provider. Because of the numerous children she cared for (and helped raise) she was lovingly known as the neighborhood mother.

In 1967, she married James Clifton Forrest and to this union 2 children were born.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dossie and Bernice, a sister Alice (Richard); brothers: William (Rosa); James, Joseph; sister-in-law, Janice; nephews; Gary, James “Junie”; adopted, Danielle Lee.

Fond memories, of “Phine” will be cherished by her faithful, loving, vigilant, attentive, devoted husband, James “Cliff”, two dedicated children: son, Michael (Martha) and daughter, Tammi (Anthony); grandchildren: Rodney, Michael, MiQuan, TamBrea’; adopted grandchildren: Angeleisha, Tramaine; godson, Bryant; six great-grands; devoted brother, Percy “Toy”; one sister-in-law, Inease Booth; nieces & nephews: Sandra, Dennis, Donna (Michael), Kasandra, Alexander, Tawana, Yolanda (Kevin), Nicole (Larry), Donny, William “Jay”, Lawrence “Junie”; great nieces & nephews: Leslie, Reginald, T’Ana (AJ), Travis (Carrie), Stanley (Tanicia), Michael, Keisha, Antonio, Danielle, Nicholas, Lauren, Cassandra, Kevin, Jr., Jeremy, Jevon, Jemell, Jaliah; twenty great great nieces & nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives and her longtime community neighborhood family and friends: Anderson’s, Lee’s, Spencer’s, Booker’s, Jones’, Thompson’s, Hill’s, Rainey’s, Eppes’, Jackson’s, Clark’s, Smith’s, Boose’s, Day’s, Flippin’s, Hick’s, Nash’s, Nunnally’s, Carter’s, Miller’s, Bates’, Webster’s, Couch’s, Haskins’, Jasper’s, Christopher’s, Saunders’, Hamlin’s, Johnson’s, Elliot’s, Johns’, Atkin’s, Trueheart’s, Dove’s, Copeland’s, Dabney’s, Chaffin’s, Divens’, Williams’, Boyd’s, Drummond’s and many other special families.
