Obituary for Joseph P. Owens, Sr.
Joseph P. Owens Sr. 94 passed away peacefully on August 22, 2020 in Amelia, Virginia.

Joseph affectionately known as “Pete” was born on December 12, 1925 to the late Johnny and Polly Owens. Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Promise Land Baptist Church. Joseph married to Margie S. Owens on July 27, 1947 in Amelia, VA. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and was a World War II Veteran. Pete was self-employed in the pulp wood business for many years. Pete was well known throughout his community and always greeted you with a smile, tip of his hat or a hand gestor, and of course the “how are you doing BOBO”.

Joseph is preceded in death by his, daughter Kathrine Owens; sisters, Alice O. Tyler, Julia O. Eanes, and Brother Linwood Owens.

Pete leaves to cherish his memories; wife, Margie S. Owens; children, Brenda Owens (Herbert) Butler, Mary Ann Jenkins, Arlethia (Bruce) Mclver; his sons, Joseph Owens, Jr. (Geraldyne) Owens, Percell (Marie) Owens, Ike (Joan) Owens, William Owens (Joyce), Robert (Rosa) Owens; sisters, JoAnn Jennings, Frances Owens; brothers, Lawrence Owens, Sr., and John Owens, sister in laws, Gladys Person, Alice Tyler, Helen Royal, Gloria Thompson, and Brother in law Leroy Bailey. all of Amelia, VA; 26 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren with a host of nieces and nephews; special and devoted niece Dorothy Scott.

Funeral Services Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Amelia. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.
