Obituary for Joseph L. Trent
DEACON JOSEPH LORENSER TRENT, son of the late Katherine Katrice Eanes Trent and Joseph L. (Pa) Johnson, Sr. departed this life in Richmond, VA on Monday, December 21, 2009. He was born January 30, 1953 in Farmville, VA.
He accepted Christ at a young age at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Reverend Gordon. He served as a faithful deacon.
Joseph attended school in Nottoway County and graduated from Nottoway High School in 1971. He attended Southside Community College. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1973 and received an Honorable Discharge.
Over the years he was employed by Abbott Oil Company in Pensacola, FL; Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, VA; Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, VA; Nottoway Correction Center in Burkeville, VA from where he retired in 2006; and part-time for Nottoway County Public Schools.
Joseph was a football coach for the Blackstone Recreational Association, and later coached youth basketball in Blackstone and baseball in Burkeville. He was a co-founder of the Nottoway Youth Football Association (1997), where he coached and served as Athletic Director and board member for the past twelve years. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and a member of the Summer Knights Social Club.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife of 24 years, Verely Gaffney-Trent; son, Joseph Gaffney-Trent; daughters, Katherine Trent of Atlanta, GA and Sasha Gregory (Marcus) of Greenbay, VA; step-children, John Franklin of Pensacola, FL, Troy, Matthew and Julie Cox of Pensacola, FL and Richmond, VA, and Deadrea B. Walker (Brian) of Farmville, VA; two sisters, Sandria Johnson of Dover, DE and Helen “Mazie” J. Holmes (William) of Crewe, VA; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James “Bossie” Johnson (Annie) of Crewe, VA, Harold “Tommy” Johnson (Juette) of Crewe, VA and Joseph “Joe-Boy” Johnson (Pansy) of Crewe, VA; three grandchildren, Shelva Hawkes, Ziana, and Shaomi Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Crewe Cemetery, Crewe.
