Obituary for Joseph Johnson
Joseph Johnson was born on October 15, 1917, the only child of the late Sara Johnson.  He was born and raised in Cumberland County, VA.  Joseph was called home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Holy Redeemer Hospice in Meadowbrook, PA.

He attended the Green Creek School.  At an early age he accepted Christ at the Green Creek Baptist Church.  He worked at Camp Pickett Army Base, currently known as Fort Pickett, until he relocated.

In 1942, Joseph Married Omega Lee.  To this union was born their son, Leon Johnson.  In 1943, they relocated to Philadelphia, PA.  Joseph Worked at A.P. Green Manufacturers until he retired in 1982.  Shortly after moving to Philadelphia, he joined Second Baptist Church of Frankford under the leadership of Reverend J.C. King.  Joseph worshipped and served as a faithful member for 70 years.  He was a member of the Trustee Board for over 40 years and was awarded the title "Trustee Emeritus".  Joseph's greatest joys were going to church and spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed watching television and traveling to Cape Cod, MA and Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Omega; his sisters-in-law, Murray, Vera and Janet; and brothers-in-law, Benjamin, Clinton and Perry "Banks".  His sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law were like siblings to him.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  his son, Leon Johnson; daughter-in-law, Clara Johnson; three grandchildren, Elcindor Johnson, Marquita Johnson and Nicole Johnson (Reginald Johnson, Sr.); three great grandchildren, Darian Hill, Jr., Josiah Johnson and Reginald Johnson, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Queen Lee and Mattie Day; brothers-in-law, Lewis Lee, Alvin Lee (Helen Lee) and Mark Lee (Mary Lee); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

In Appreciation:  Vernell Bodie who prepared dinner for him weekly; Dorothy Chisholm who visited frequently bringing him his favorite sweet treats and watching Saturday night church services; and Edna Edwards who engaged in many conversations about church.

Viewing will be held for Mr. Johnson on Thursday, May 29 at High Rock Baptist Church, Rice from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m.  Interment church cemetery.
