Upon his retirement and return to Virginia, Jon reinstated his commitment to his home church, New Prospect Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend David Fitzgerald and his current pastor, Reverend Joseph A. Jones. He faithfully served on the usher board, Chairman of the Trustee Board, and president of the cemetery committee until his health declined.
