Obituary for John R. Oliver, Sr.
On Tuesday morning August 21, 2018, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called his beloved son John Robert Oliver, Sr. home to eternal rest. John, son of the late Marvin Oliver and Alberta Neal Oliver, was born on April 27, 1939 in Nottoway County, Virginia.
He was educated at Luther H. Foster High School. At an early age he accepted Christ and became a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
John was married to the late Emma Hawkes Oliver. The couple was blessed with three beautiful children Balinda, Pamela and John, Jr.
He was a faithful husband, loving father, devoted grandfather and a loyal friend of 15 years to the late Mrs. Ethel Jordan.
John was employed at Central State Hospital and then Allied Chemical where he retired in 1997.
He leaves a wonderful legacy of love and faithfulness. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of: his children Balinda Oliver of Pikesville, MD, Pamela Hill of Windsor Mill, MD and John Oliver of Randallstown, MD; four grandchildren Malik Oliver, Makayla Hill, Makenna Hill and Malakhi Hill; an honorary daughter Angela Tucker Epps; beloved grandchildren Khaila Hill, Fate Hill and Khalia Wilkes; two loving sisters Evelyn (William) Bolling and Martha (John) Wilson; two devoted brothers Thomas (Virginia) Oliver and Fred (Janice) Hawkes of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in-law Ann (Joel) Todd of Chesterfield, VA and Alma Weaver of Dover, PA; one son-in-law Tavon Hill of Baltimore, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
