Obituary for John R. Croslin, Sr.
John Rodenious Croslin, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. John, son of the late Reverend John and Lazelle Croslin, was born September 9, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia.

John loved the Lord, and at an early age he was baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, his home church. He became a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfax Station, Virginia where he served as an Usher and anywhere needed at church service.

John studied at Lunenburg County Public Schools were he played football and basketball. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1966, the first black to graduate in Lunenburg County, Virginia at an all white school. John furthered his education at Virginia State College (VSC) in Petersburg, Virginia from 1966-1968 in Agriculture and Accounting.

John met and married Shirley Jones of Blackstone, Virginia, and the two were happily married for almost fifty-one years. This union was blessed with two amazing children. John loved himself some Shirley. His mom said that’s all John talked about, Shirley, Shirley, Shirley. If you see one you see the other.

John had thirty-eight years of employment with Dominion Virginia Power (VEPCO) in Petersburg and Fairfax, Virginia.

After retiring from Dominion Power as a supervisor, John relocated to Moseley, Virginia. He enjoyed his retirement, visiting his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed watching TV in his lazy boy chair and sitting on his deck.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Shirley; his two children: son, John Croslin Jr. (Victoria) of Chesapeake, Virginia and daughter, Dr. Danielle Fisher (Mike) of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Nathan Croslin, Joslyn Croslin, Justin Walters, Larrisa Fisher and Jade Fisher; four siblings, Dr. Artis Croslin (Dorothy) of Hampton, Virginia, Aleasta Rainey (Devoil) of Jessup, Maryland, Yyron Croslin (Teresa) of Mocksville, North Carolina and Letorious Croslin of Washington, DC; one aunt, Iva Stalling of Newport News, Virginia; brothers and sisters in law, William Jones, Helen Stubbs (James) of Blackstone, Virginia, Frank Jones (Pauline) of Richmond, Virginia and Ann Davenport (Fred) of Blackstone, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
