Obituary for John E. Dickson
Life for JOHN EDWARD DICKSON began May 3, 1927 in Lunenburg County, VA. After a full life of 82 years, he departed this life while sleeping on Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009 at 7:58 a.m.
John was baptized at an early age at Eleven Oaks Baptist Church in Crewe, VA under the direction of Reverend Bass.
On May 10, 1953, John married Sallie L. Bennett. In May 2003 they celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends. His favorite saying from this day was “boy, I look sharp.” In April, 2009 when his health was failing, he moved to Richmond, VA to live with his son Raymond.
John was employed as a machine operator for Westvaco Corporation where he retired after 29 years of service. Through the years he worked his own lawn care business. He was skilled with working with his hands. He was ready and available to help all in the area with any type of job that needed to be done. He was a collector of items that you would throw away, for he knew one day it might come in handy.
John leaves to cherish his fond memories: his devoted wife, Sallie L. Dickson; one daughter, Rose Paige (Curtis); four sons, William (Linda), John (Pat), Preston (Cheryl), and Raymond, Sr. (Mary); twelve grandchildren, two devoted, Crystal Dickson and Raymond Dickson, Jr.; thirty-one great grandchildren; one sister; four brothers; a host of nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
