Gently and peacefully, our family circle was profoundly altered on Saturday, June 19, 2010. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, JOHN ALLEN EPES was called home from labor to reward.
John Allen Epes was born April 14, 1929 to Bessie and Harry Epes of Blackstone, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Eppes.
Allen, as he was better known; was educated in the Nottoway County Public School system. He joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. He served in several ministries throughout his life. He was a faithful servant on the Trustee Ministry, Senior Usher Board, Men of Shiloh Choir and Men’s Ministry until his health began to fail.
He is a Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed his life membership in VFW Post 5313. He often told stories of his time in the military.
He retired from Firestone Synthetics Fibers in Hopewell, VA. He had many friends and fond memories of his employment there.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mildred Lane of Crewe.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three children, Warren (Berthell), Andrienette (Aubrey), Alice (Earl); five grandchildren, Twan Epes (Melisa), Marcus Epes (LaMisha), Alexis Cousin, Christopher Coleman, Rachelle Coleman; two great grandchildren, Kalief Epes, Teacora Epes; one aunt, Roberta Bolling; one uncle, Richard Bell, both of Blackstone; one niece; one nephew; one sister-in-law; a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.
