Obituary for Jessie Mae Jackson
On Friday, May 17, 2013, Jessie Mae Jackson went home to be with the Lord. Jessie Mae was born on April 9, 1935, in Amelia, VA to the union of Jesse and Virginia Mondrey, both of whom preceded her in death.
Jessie Mae attended Russell Grove High School. At an early age she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and attended Flower Hill Baptist Church after moving to the Lodore Community.
Jessie Mae was joined in Holy Matrimony to Lemuel Jackson on October 17, 1956. There were four children born out of this union. She was affectionately called “Mae Mae” by her family. She loved to cook and had a green thumb for growing flowers. She was employed by the late Audrey Moore of Richmond, VA for over twenty-five years that evolved to a faithful friendship.
Jessie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel Jackson, one son, James Jackson, one sister, Charlotte Mondrey, three brothers, John Henry and Joseph Mondrey and Jackie Turner.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sandra Jackson of Richmond, VA, Kenneth (Samantha) Jackson and Daniel Jackson of Amelia, VA and daughter in law, Valarie Jackson of Washington, DC. Four sisters, Martha Jones, Marjorie Perry, Marie (Thomas) Mickie, Lucille (Johnnie) Whitaker, all of Richmond, VA, two brothers, Edward (Doris) Mondrey, of Amelia, VA, Oliver (Nancy) Mondrey of Richmond, VA, sisters in law, Carrie Mondrey, of Amelia, VA, Dorothy Turner, of Richmond, VA and Alease Sanders of East Orange, NJ. Four grandchildren, Brandon, Alexse, Nicholas Jackson, and Shannon Henderson. Four great grandchildren. Her extended family, Mary (Jim) Partin of Powhatan, VA and Clinton (Lisa) Moore, Jr., of Chesapeake, VA, a special friend of the family, Malissa Johnson, devoted friends, Estelle Woodson and Geneva Jones and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Flower Hill Baptist Church, Amelia with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
