Obituary for Jesse J. Archer, Jr.
On August 18, 2017, at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, the Lord called home our beloved Jesse James Archer, Jr., better known as “Peter”. Peter was born on August 30, 1947 in Baltimore, MD to Nannie E. Stokes and Jesse J. Archer, Sr.
Peter grew up in a loving home where he was always the center of attention. He gave just as much love as he received. He was educated at the A. G. Richardson Elementary School in Blackstone and after completing the seventh grade, he enrolled in Crossroads where he was sent to different places to enhance his education. He attended programs in Charlotte, Keysville, Blackstone and KREST in Kenbridge.
Peter was baptized at Cedar Hill Baptist Church. He loved attending church and always enjoyed fellowshipping with all the members. Although he was few in words, his radiant smile whispered his unspoken words.
Peter was preceded in death by his mother, Nannie E. Stokes; his father, Jesse J. Archer, Sr.; his grandmother, Maude Eppes; an uncle and aunt, Everett and Evelyn Eppes.
Peter had a child-like personality, but he was always quick to let you know, I am a “Grown Man”. Peter loved being in his home with his late mother Nannie and later with his loving Aunt Priscilla, but he also loved and enjoyed living at Heritage Hall.
Peter leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and dedicated aunt, Priscilla E. Moore of Blackstone, VA; a loving cousin Iris Eppes of Richmond, VA; a devoted extended family, Carl Hawkes, Jr. and Evelyn Hawkes of Blackstone, VA; and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia in charge of arrangements.
