Jean Carol Delaney, 75, passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 15, 1949, in Bronx, New York, she was the beloved daughter of Bernard McKinley Delaney Sr. and Nannie Emma Scruggs-Delaney.
Jean was full of life, known for her sharp wit, fiery spirit, and saying exactly what was on her mind. She was unapologetically herself and always kept it real—something her family admired and loved about her.
She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, shopping, listening to music, and watching movies. She also had a special love for caring for children and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. She often shared stories of her childhood in the Bronx and her adventures around the boroughs, giving her family a glimpse into the world she grew up in.
Jean was a devoted mother to Devron Delaney, Deacon Keith Delaney Sr. (Nicole), Kevin Delaney Sr. (Tammi), and Tyrene Foster. She was a proud grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 14.
She is survived by her sister, Vivian Delaney; her daughter-in-law, Janet Delaney-Friend; her devoted cousin, Susan Clarke; loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of family members and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Nannie Delaney Sr.; her siblings, Bernard Delaney Jr., Martha Delaney, and Sheila Delaney; her son, Devron Delaney; her son-in-law, Wayne Foster; her granddaughter, Diamond; and her great-granddaughter, Kaye.
Jean’s legacy lives on through her family and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever cherished.
