JAMES WINSTON ALEXANDER of 200 Mann St. Blackstone, VA departed this life on Thursday, June 22, 2008. James, son of the late Woodrow Alexander and Mary Inez Winkler Alexander was born on January 15, 1943 in Mecklenburg County.
James was married at a young age to Shirley M. Woodson and to that union three children were born: James Alexander (Cook) of Delaware, Florence A. Alexander Whittaker of Prince George, VA and Gwendolyn M. Alexander of Hopewell, VA.
James was preceded in death by one great grandchild, Crystal N. Harris; five brothers, Wilson E. Alexander of Alberta, VA, Waverly A. Alexander, William Powell of Baltimore, MD, Elijah J. Alexander of Richmond, VA and Dewitt Powell III of South Hill, VA;
James is survived by his devoted sister, Dorothy Baldwin of Richmond, VA; two daughters, Florence A. Whittaker of Prince George, VA and Gwendolyn M. Alexander of Hopewell, VA; one son, James Alexander of Delaware; two brothers, Clarence L. Alexander of Baltimore, MD and Thomas A. Alexander of South Hill, VA; seven sisters-in-law; one aunt; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Rosebud Baptist Church, Dundas, VA with interment in the church cemetery.
