Obituary for James R. Knight, Sr.
Trustee James R. Knight, Sr. of 527 Stokes Street, Blackstone, VA entered into eternal rest at VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was born to Lee and Irene Knight on February 16, 1934 in Nottoway County, VA.
Trustee Knight accepted his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Cellar Creek Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA. He served as a dedicated, faithful Usher (Doorkeeper) and Trustee for over sixty years. He remained as an active member until his departure from the side of the Jordan River.
He was educated in the old Cellar Creek School, Blackstone, VA receiving his training and education.
He met the love of his life, Patsy A. Knight and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on November 28, 1961. To this union five children were born and raised, Edward, James Jr., Charlene, Ralph and Jerome.
He worked several jobs to provide for his family over the years, Hammock-Rand Car Dealership, Blackstone, VA for ten years and Central State Hospital, Petersburg, VA over thirty plus years in Transportation Department. After retiring from Central State Hospital, he continued to work part-time for several years and retired a second time from dedication service, Central State Hospital.
Mr. Knight was known for his classy dressing attire, supporting and raising his family within the church and community with values by example.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Irene Knight; children, James R. Knight, Jr. and Charlene K. Henderson; brothers, Robert, Ben and Raymond aka “Fuzzy” Knight.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of sixty years, Patsy A. Knight of Blackstone, VA; three devoted sons, Edward Boswell of Petersburg, VA, Ralph Knight and Jerome (Tammy) Knight of Blackstone, VA; seven grandchildren, Felicia Knight of Greensboro, NC, Tiara Knight of Petersburg, VA, Edward (Stephanie) Henderson of Amelia, VA, Sade Henderson (Trey), Cadesha Henderson, Tevin Knight (Tiara) and Tanecha Knight, all of Blackstone, VA; eleven great grandchildren, Dakariyah Singleton, Kaevon Knight, Kyia Knight of Greensboro, NC, Alexus EL, Terrance EL, III, Edward Henderson, Jr., Logan Henderson, all of Amelia, VA, Kamoree Knight, Quamir Dowtin, Ka’Ron Knight, Trey Sykes, Jr., all of Blackstone, VA; one daughter-in-law, Tonia Knight; one son in law, Edward A. Henderson; two sisters, Cynthia (Chester) Parham of Chesapeake, VA and Martha Boswell of Blackstone, VA; thre sisters-in-law, Mary Gilcrest, Lena Knight of Blackstone, VA and Ann (Deacon Morris) Hardy of Darvills, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services Friday, April 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Shiloh (Dinwiddie) Baptist Church, Blackstone.
