Obituary for James "Mack" Thornton
James (Mack) Thornton was called home to Glory on Thursday, October 4, 2007. James, the youngest of seven was born on May 5, 1934 to James and Ethel Thornton of Powhatan, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David and Robert. He attended the public schools in Powhatan County, Virginia. James accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he attended faithfully until his health began to fail him. James was always a quiet gentle soul. He was a full-hearted, caring and loving brother and uncle. Even through the harsh trials and tribulations of his younger life, he always held an easy no complaint demeanor with a quiet voice and a gentle smile. James will be sorely missed. He leaves to cherish his memories: four sisters, Elizabeth T. Blocker, Queen T. Brown (Royal), Louise T. Greene (Joseph) and devoted, Mary T. Goode; a loving and devoted nephew and his wife whom he resided with for twenty-five years. (Caregivers) Deacon and Deaconess David and Augusta Thornton; two loving and devoted great nieces, Tywanda Morse and Shontai Thornton; a loving and devoted great nephew, David Thornton, III; two loving and devoted great-great nieces, Tianna and Asyia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and one sister-in-law, Janie Thornton. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 8, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Powhatan, Va with interment in the church cemetery.Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
