Obituary for James M. McFarland
JAMES MONROE MCFARLAND entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA. He was born in Brunswick County on September 27, 1938 to the late Monroe and Frances McFarland.
At an early age he confessed Christ and joined the Hickory Run Baptist Church. He received his education at James Solomon Russell.
On June 18, 1961, he was joined in holy matrimony to Maggie Lee Green and they relocated to New York City. To this union five children were born: Vera, LaWanda, James, Craig and David McFarland.
He began his career with the New York City Transit Authority as a conductor and was later promoted to a Motorman. He retired after twenty years of service and moved to Crewe, VA to enjoy his retirement. He loved the outdoors and spent hours outside on his tractor taking care of his acres of land, planting his garden and tinkering in his shed.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary McFarland and Josephine Woodson. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of fifty years, Maggie McFarland; three sons, James (Elisa) McFarland of Bronx, NY, Craig (Angela) McFarland of Richmond, VA and David McFarland of Crewe, VA; two daughters, LaWanda McFarland of Las Vegas, NV and Vera McFarland of Mount Vernon, NY; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Shirley) McFarland of Roselle, NJ and Sammie McFarland of Reading, PA; two sisters, Martha (Robert) Cooper of Washingtonville, NY and Frances (Charles) Charles of Pottstown, PA; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2:30 at Hickory Run Baptist Church, Rawlings, VA with interment in the church cemetery.
