Obituary for James Lee Irby
In fulfillment of the plan of God for his life, on Saturday, August 21, 2010, our father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, James went quietly to sleep.
He was born in Nottoway County, Virginia on November 14, 1929. Most of his childhood and adulthood he was referred to as “Rooster”. He was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. George N. Irby of Blackstone, Virginia. At a young age, he joined Shiloh Baptist Church and treasured his membership.
He was educated at Nottoway Training School where he graduated in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and served until 1952. He then pursued the Barbering profession at Virginia State College.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Frances Lorraine Hawkes Irby on April 23, 1955. There were two daughters born to this union.
He was a civil service employee for the General Defense Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia and later retired from Fort Pickett, Virginia in 1993.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory: two daughters Rose Irby Lee of Woodbridge, Virginia (Clarence, Jr.), and Vickie Irby Elliott of Disputanta, Virginia (Willie, Jr.), one granddaughter Lorraine Lee, and two sons-in-law. He is also survived by a nephew George H. Irby, a devoted friend Mrs. Mary Page, three sisters-in-law, one Godchild and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
