Obituary for James Henry Washington
JAMES HENRY WASHINGTON, was born on November 17, 1935, the fourth of seven children to the late Louis Randall Washington and Malissa Scruggs Washington. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Retreat Hospital after a lengthy illness. James grew up in the St. James community and was educated in the Amelia County Public Schools. He graduated from Russell Grove High School in 1953. He moved to New Jersey as a young adult seeking employment. There he worked many years at General Motors until retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was well known and liked by all who knew him. Shortly after retirement he moved back to Jetersville and lived a quiet life as his health began to fail. Three brothers preceded him in death, Leroy, Louis and Russell. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Carrie Washington; three sons, Ronald, Derek and Keith; three daughters, Shelia, Cheryl and Dawna; ten grandchildren; great grandchildren; three brothers, William, Allen (Ruth) and Joseph (Deanna); one sister, Audrey Walker (Michael); two brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 from Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home Chapel, Amelia with interment in the St. James Baptist Church Cemetery, Jetersville, VA.Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home of Amelia was in charge of the arrangements.
