Obituary for James G. Jackson-Singletary
James G. Jackson-Singletary departed this life on January 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on June 14, 1971 in Brooklyn New York to Wanda Jackson Singletary and the late James Edward Singletary. He was the first born of this union.
During his younger years James was educated in the New York City School systems. Later during his teenage years he relocated to Virginia where he continued and completed his education, graduating from Nottoway County High School.  Upon graduating from high school James became a Correctional Officer for the Brunswick Correctional Center. James then attended The Trojan School of Cosmetology where he obtained his Barbers  License, later becoming a Master Barber.  He opened a well known barber shop in Blackstone, Virginia named The Ultimate Effects, which was one of the staples in the community.
On November 29, 2003, James was united in marriage to Angela Delene Oliver whom he loved and cherished and affectionately referred to as “Boo”. This union combined resulted in a loving family with seven children, four belonging to James and three belonging to Angela. These children are James Wallace, Christafa Wallace, Bernisha Alston, Danta Jackson, Kwaman Stevenson, Takera Stevenson and Quashauna Moore. James was also blessed to have three grandchildren, Serenity Stevenson, Danta Jackson Jr. and Alayah Wallace.
James loved the Lord, and accepted him as his personal savior at the approximate age of 16. He was baptized at Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and later transferred his membership to the Pleasant Oak Baptist Church.
James never met a stranger, and his smile was priceless. He loved life, his family, and always had kind words of encouragement for his clients that sat in his barber’s chair.
James leaves to cherish his precious memories:  His wife, Angela Oliver Jackson; his mother Wanda Jackson Singletary; his seven children; three grandchildren; one brother Reginald Jackson (Iris); one sister Keisha Gorham; one brother-in-law Dwayne Oliver (Danielle); his devoted niece Nathalie Jackson; two devoted cousins Gail Singletary, and Erika Jackson-Quarles; Cameron Hobbs, whom he loved like a son; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other family and friends.
