Obituary for James E. Jefferson
James Edward Jefferson departed this life peacefully on Saturday January 19th, 2013 at the Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel Maryland. His final breath did not conclude in isolation, but in the presence of his family that loved and cherished him dearly. His smile and dancing eyes will always be remembered as a symbol of the impression he would leave once he engaged an individual; and thoughts of his humor and antics will forever compliment those wonderful impressions.
In review of his life, Dad was one of the eldest of fourteen children; born to the late James P. and Lillian Jefferson. He was an very adventurous child who was loved and cherished by his siblings and in response, one that returned that love.
Dad loved to garden, fish, dress, collect coins, assemble puzzles and most of all...socialize. He enjoyed lengthy conversations (many of those conversations spent with his nephew Jimmy) and never, never would he turn down a great meal.
Dad was a member of the Mount Gazerine Baptist Church where he was first introduced to Christ. Dad enjoyed work. He was a diligent and faithful employee who worked as a residential and business propane gas installer for the W. H. Sommers LP Gas Service. He enjoyed his role and engaged in it for more than 30 years.
In 1933, he entered holy matrimony with the love of his life, Annie Green Jefferson who had earlier proceeded him in death. They were married for 65 years. During that union, a daughter, Annie Lillian, (often referred to as “Bud”) was conceived. She brought happiness to their union.
As Bud began to grow and define independence for her life, Dad and his wife “Annie Mae” decided to “extend their nest”. Lynell, Timmy and Chevalia (commonly referred to as “Val”) became part of the Jefferson household. The children, (great kids they were) enriched their parent’s lives through the fall and winter of their lives and kept them attentive and on their toes. As the vigor of life departed Dad, the children and family were always there to offer guidance, support and love.
Dad leaves to cherish in his memory, two sons, Lynell and Timothy Jefferson. A daughter, Chevalia Jefferson [Shernon] Robinson. Four grandchildren, AJ Jackson, Mayah Robinson, Timothy Jefferson Jr. and Ty’kara Jefferson. One devoted sister, Clara Hawkes and a host of loving, attentive and supportive nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
