Obituary for James E. Fowlkes
James E.. Fowlkes, 97 of Richmond, VA and formerly of Blackstone entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, VA. Son of the late William and Daisy McGee Fowlkes, he was born January 15, 1917 in Baltimore, MD.
James was employed by B.T. Crump, Inc. for many years, in addition he also worked for Stanley Toy and Novelty Company.Â
He was a member of the Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church and attended until his health failed. James served honorably in the United States Army and was a proud member of the American Legion. He also loved baseball and animals.
James was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Rosa M. Fowlkes, and is survived by two sisters, Mary Fowlkes Jackson and Alma Fowlkes Smith (Clarence), both of Blackstone, VA; a devoted niece, Mary Lee Coleman of Blackstone, VA; nephew, Richard L. Coleman of Forrestville, MD; two godsons, Archer Collier, Jr. and Harvey Collier (Dawn); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
