Obituary for James Chat Chapman
James “Chat” Walter Chapman departed this life on December 22, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his family.  James began his life on March 24, 1926 in West Virginia.  At an early age he relocated to Crewe, VA where he was raised by Deacon William H. Oliver who preceded him in death.  He had four brothers and five sisters.
At an early age James joined the Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he continued to be a member until his death.  His passion at church has been the music ministry.  He was active in many of the church choirs and enjoyed traveling with the choirs to various churches in the community.
He was educated in Nottoway County.  He served in the Armed Services during World War II, from which he was Honorably Discharged.  Upon return to the states, he was employed by the Northern and Southern Railroad for forty years plus until his health began to fail, leading to his retirement.
On August 8, 1947 James joined in holy matrimony to Mary Louise Cousin. She preceded him in death after sixty-one years of marriage.
To know Chat was to love him.  His smile, his laughter and his greeting, “Hello Darling” will be greatly missed.
