Obituary for James B. Jackson
James, lovingly called “Jimmy,” arrived on May 21, 1939, the third of eight children born to the late Berthia and Carter Jackson. Born and raised in Burkeville, Jimmy was educated in the Nottoway County Public School system while also helping his father raise tobacco and farm. He was drafted into the Army in 1963, during the Vietnam War, and was extremely proud of his service and veteran status. He and his beloved “Brother Bob” later operated a logging business together.
Jimmy was a quiet but strong man who loved to joke and laugh. He enjoyed sports (especially his Redskins), working on cars, and his prized possession – his 1971 blue & white Chevy Nova SS. He loved his family and friends, and was deeply loved in return.
He leaves to honor and cherish him, his wife Doris; daughters Joyce, Gwendolyn (Louis) and Tina; siblings Nancy (David), Hazel (Ronnie), Mary, and Lillian (Nathaniel); grandsons Rahmel and Tremaine; sisters-in-law Eunice, Patricia, Carolyn and Jacqueline (Roosevelt); brothers-in-law Steven and Samuel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Joseph; sisters Lucy and Berthia “Irene”; brother Robert; brothers-in-law Ronnie, James, Melvin, Joseph and Clarence; and nephew Gregory.
Jimmy enjoyed life to the fullest, and he left it as he lived it -- true to form -- on his terms. And on April 2, 2020, he picked a beautiful day to fly!
