Obituary for Isiah J. Parker
ELDER ISIAH J. PARKER entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, Virginia.  He was born on January 20, 1928 to proud parents, Roger and Mary Parker of Nottoway, Virginia.   He was the seventh of ten children.  His parents and seven of his siblings preceded him in death.
He was educated in the public schools of Nottoway County, Virginia.  At an early age, he joined the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and served faithfully until he left the area and relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, for employment.
After moving to Baltimore, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel and later transferred to Monumental Steel in Baltimore, where he worked until he retired.  It was also in Baltimore where he married the love of his life, Mabel Blackwell of Crewe, Virginia.  While living there, he also joined the Fountain Baptist Church where he sang with the Male Chorus.
As Elder Parker grew in grace, he had a burning desire to preach the gospel.  While studying for the ministry, he was licensed to preach under the pastorate of Reverend Dennis Barrell of Fountain Baptist Church.  Eventually he served as an assistant minister of Fountain Baptist Church under Reverend Charles Franklin.  He also served on the ministerial staff and was a member of the male chorus at Liberty Community Church of God in Christ in Baltimore.  He absolutely loved PRAISING the LORD!!!
In later years, he returned to Virginia and re-established his membership at Mount Nebo.  While residing at Heritage Hall, he often ministered to many of the other residents of the home.  As time moved on and his health began to deteriorate, HIS FAITH NEVER WAIVERED!!!
Elder Parker was  also a Past Master of  the 15th Masonic District of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Maryland and It’s Jurisdictions.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Blackwell Parker.  Though they had no children of their own, they had many nieces and nephews who loved them dearly and were constantly in their lives.
His memories will be forever cherished by one caring and loving sister, Malinda Parker, of Baltimore, Maryland.; a devoted and supportive brother,  McKinley Parker of Vauxhall,  New Jersey; a dedicated and loving nephew and caretaker, Fred B. Wilson, Sr. (Ernestine), of Petersburg, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Irene Parker of Norfolk, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Roy Blackwell (Edith) of Crewe, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many other friends and acquaintances.
Funeral Services Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
