Obituary for Hubert (Becky) Hicks
HUBERT LEE “BECKY” HICKS was born on December 11, 1952 in Nottoway County. He was the fifth of ten children born to the union of the late Willie and Estelle Booker Hicks. He quietly departed this life on August 26, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, VA, after a brief illness.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age, was baptized and joined the Gravel Hill Baptist Church.
He received his education in the Nottoway County Public school system, a graduate of the Class of 1972. He was employed by the Newman Tire Company in Farmville, VA for several years, then later moved to New York where he resided for over thirty years. He worked various jobs until he became disabled. He moved back home to Virginia in 2009.
Becky was a jovial, happy-go-lucky man who loved to make others laugh. He experienced many health issues but faced them all head on, never one to feel sorry for himself, and not once did he ever give up or complain. He was a double-amputee, yet he remained totally independent until he was stricken by a stroke on August 9, 2012. He was an absolute inspiration to family and friends alike.
He leaves to cherish his memory: three brothers, Earl (Floria) Hicks of Burkeville, William (Donna) Hicks of Burkeville, Willie Hicks, Jr. of Crewe; six sisters, Martha (Gerald) Bland of Amelia, Elsie (Mack) Robinson of Richmond, Ruby (Paul) Sims of Burkeville, Rosa Hicks of Burkeville, Mae (Arthur) Miller of Meherrin and Gertrude Hicks of Burkeville; his loving and devoted companion, Kay Davis of Richmond; one uncle, Raymond Hicks of Rice; two aunts, Edith Stokes of Rice, and Annie Mae (Arthur) Watson of Farmville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Jetersville, VA with interment in the Craft Family Cemetery, Burkeville.
