He was born March 1, 1971, in Amelia, VA, the son of Howard and Hattie Divens. He was baptized at an early age and joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Rice, VA. Butch was educated at Amelia County Public Schools and enjoyed playing football. Shortly after graduating he followed in his father’s footsteps and worked as a logger for more than twenty years. He loved to cook, especially creating new dishes (like his famous “fish-balls”). Divens; two sisters: Antoinette Divens and Patricia (Harry “Jay”) Brown; one niece Quynesha Hatcher; three nephews: Bobby Hatcher, Jr., and Javon & Jalen Brown; two great nieces and a great nephew; a devoted friend Velma Chambers and a host of other relatives and friends. Butch was also a father figure to Bertram & Marinda Agee, Lakisha Braxton, Ashley Johnson and Velma Ayers; as well as, Taleka & Beonca Tucker. He was preceded in death by his father Howard M. Divens; and grandparents Mr. & Mrs. William (Hellen) Divens and Mr. & Mrs. James (Mollie) Williams. Special thanks to the team of dedicated physicians, nurses, and caregivers from MCV/VCU Massey Cancer Center and Sheltering Arms Rehabilitation Center.
