Appointed to every man that lives, surely he must die. After death, comes the time of judgement. So it was with our Howard Barrett Pegram, Jr. who answered the call on Friday January 31, 2025.
Howard was born on August 30, 1975, to the late Howard Senior and Joyce Bailey Pegram. He was raised by his grandmother, Elizabeth Pegram, who affectionately called him “Man-Man,” and he, in return, called her “Ma.”
He loved his grandmother unconditionally, and his eyes would light up when he spoke of her. At an early age, Howard joined Little Bethel Baptist Church. He was educated in the Amelia County Public School system and graduated with the class of 1994.
Howard played football for the Amelia Raiders as both a tight end and a defensive end. He was involved in all kinds of sports and had many hobbies, including fishing. He was a member of the Yung Guns Hunting Club and was instrumental in teaching younger members gun and hunting safety.
Playing softball was a passion of his. He played with the C&G Wrecking Crew softball team. Howard was a truck driver for many years, and his motto was, “Get up and make it happen.” He worked for different companies over the years, and at the time of his passing, he was employed by Marco Property Services. He was called “Man-Man,” “Guzzie,” and “Gizmo” by his family and friends. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Howard married Sonja Trent in 2002. From this union, two children were born: JaVontae and La-Teairra, and he became an incredible dad to Markell. Howard later became a member of New Birth Fellowship Ministries, where he worshiped with his family and became part of the Usher’s Ministry.
Howard loved life and possessed a jovial spirit. His fond and loving memories will be cherished by his children: Markell (Arcella), affectionately called “Kel”; JaVontae’, affectionately called “Tator-Bug”; and La-Teairra, affectionately called “Baby Girl.” He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Aleah, affectionately called “Lele.”
He is survived by his three sisters, Joyce (Tony) Coleman, India, and Tyler Pegram of Amelia, VA; two brothers, Jimmy (Chandra) Bailey of Chesterfield, VA, and Shawn Elliott of Manassas, VA; one aunt, Lois Mondrey; and two uncles, Joe (Luberta) Pegram and Ernest Pegram, all of Amelia, VA. He also leaves behind two nieces, Shakira Coleman and Harlym; four nephews, Kendrick and AJ Coleman of Amelia, Israel, and Sean Elliott Jr. of Manassas, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
