Obituary for Howard B. Yates
On Friday morning, July 3, 2020 God dispatched his angels to the Senior Citizens Home of Henderson, NC to retrieve Ben from his earthly tabernacle to bring him to his new heavenly tabernacle. Howard Benjamin Yates was born on May 18, 1941. He was the son of the late James Edward and Elizabeth Farley Yates.
He was educated in the school system of Nottoway County. He joined the Cedar Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He attended church regularly until he went to Henderson, NC to reside with his brother Josepha and his wife Cynthia.
Most people did not know Howard, they knew Ben. He was affectionately called Ben by everyone. Ben had a love for people. There was not a person he met that he did not become a friend to. Ben loved fishing, hunting, watching westerns on TV, listening to the Blues, working in his garden, along with doing jobs for neighbors.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Yates; three brothers, James, Thomas and Herbert; one sister, Delois. He leaves to cherish his memories: his sisters, Rosa Yates Brown of Goodlettsville, TN, Florine Yates-Shelton of Blackstone, VA, LoVerna Yates Boyd of Richmond, VA; his brothers, Clyde Yates (Lauretta) of Cumberland, VA and Joseph Yates (Cynthia) of Henderson, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Graveside Services Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 1100 a.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church.
