Obituary for Herman Edward Hawkes
Herman Edward Hawkes, 81 went on to eternal rest on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Farmville, VA. He was born on November 3, 1939 in Blackstone, VA to the late Lee A. Hawkes, Sr. and Ida E. Holloway Hawkes.
Herman was a member of Cellar Creek Baptist Church. He worked in hospital services in Richmond, VA for many years. He later moved back home to Blackstone, VA where he worked at Ft. Pickett, VA until his health failed him. He then resided at The Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Farmville, VA.
Herman was the youngest of five siblings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma E. Hawkes Hodges; brothers, Lee A. Hawkes, Jr., and Emmitt E. Hawkes; brother-in-law, Alfred D. Mavin, Sr.
Herman leaves to cherish his memories: a sister, Beatrice Hawkes Mavin of Blackstone, VA; sister-in-law, Margaret Hawkes of Baltimore, MD; a niece, Delois Mavin Diggs (Wesley) of Newport News, VA; his nephews, Alfred D. Mavin, Jr. of Blackstone, VA, Ivan Hawkes of Petersburg, VA and Kelvin Hawkes of Lansdale, PA; a great niece, Crystal D. Perry of Powder Springs, GA; a great nephew, Ernest T. Perry of Newport News, VA; and a host of family and friends.
