Obituary for Herman Chapman

Herman Douglas Chapman was born in Crewe, Virginia to the late Mary Louise Chapman and the late James Walter Chapman Sr. on September 22, 1947. This was his 1st piece to his puzzle. He was baptized at the Eleven Oaks Baptist church at an early age under Rev. L. W. Bass. His sister, Marion Chapman Eggleston preceded him in death on (04/16/2019 ). He was educated in Nottoway Public school system. He graduated from Luther H. Foster High school in class of 1967. Herman was a quiet neat young man who loved fine clothes, cars and the finer things in life. His desire to succeed took him beyond the boundaries of Nottoway County. He served in U. S. Navy from 1967 to 1969 when he was honorably discharged. During these times he sang in Bluejacket choir. Herman moved to various locations in Richmond. He was employed as bus driver for GRTC; customer service for United Virginia Bank and lastly found his true passion as a funeral home assistant.

He was employed at Manning Funeral Home (20+ years); Mimms Funeral Home and lastly Chiles Funeral Home for many years until his untimely death.


Herman received the final peace of his puzzle on August 01,2022 in his home in Richmond.

He is survived by 4 children; Tony Johnson (Celina), Nicole Chapman, Dominic Chapman and Tierra Chapman; 2 grandchildren Beverly Marie and Tonya Nicole; 1 brother, James Chapman, Jr (Viola). 1 brother-in-law Johnny Eggleston; 4 Aunts: Leola Epes, Nancy King, Theresa Ann Scott and Margaret Earsell Fowkles (Waverly). 1 uncle, Clarence Cousin (Pricilla). A devoted niece Dana Chapman Allen(Wayne).


A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends which rendered their assistance as needed in various capacities during this difficult time. FINAL PEACE!!!

Service & Interment: Friday, September 9, 2022 at 2pm at VA Veteran Cemetery, Amelia, VA.
