Obituary for Henry C Coleman, Sr.
Our beloved Henry Cornelius “Neil” Coleman Sr., 72, lost his courageous battle with cancer on March 15, 2018. Neil was born on December 30, 1945, in Walkerton, Virginia, to the late Rosa Edmonia Frazier Coleman and George Washington Coleman. He was preceded in death by sister Ernestine Hill and brothers Douglas and Richard Coleman.
Neil was educated in the King & Queen County school system, graduating from Central High School in 1953. He entered the Job Corps following graduation, but soon after was drafted to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He entered the Army on July, 6, 1967. While serving in Vietnam he was wounded and subsequently rewarded for his sacrifice and bravery with the following: Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Campaign Stars and Air Medal. Specialist Henry Coleman was honorably discharged on July 3, 1969.
Neil worked at the US Post Office, but found his calling as a car salesman where he worked at dealerships in Tidewater and Richmond until his retirement. He was a dedicated Dodge man.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and partner of 36 years, Sandra Hill Coleman; a son, Henry Coleman Jr. (Cynthia); stepchildren, Isaac Hawkins, Angela Hawkins Morton (Franklin Sr.) and their mother Faye Hawkins Coleman, Brian Hill (Cynthia) and Steven Hill (Tiara); grandchildren, Henry III and Leland Issac, Matthew, Alaina and Arianna, Zakiya, Franklin Jr. and Omari, Donte, Derrick and Alicia, Xavier, Tracey, Trevon, Tamya and Tashawn; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, George Coleman and Charles Coleman; sisters Jacqueline Brown (Ulysses) and Louise Fountleroy; in-laws Tony Hamlin, James Hamlin, Valerie Tyler (Earl), Joan Hamlin, Shelia Bowers, Kelly Hamlin and Brenda Hamlin; aunts Evelyn Tunstall, Catherine Allen and Edith Harrison (Lewis); uncle Paul Frazier (Mary); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing will be Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 11am to 7pm at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, 15001 Patrick Henry Highway, Amelia.
Funeral Services Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia. Interment Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home on Thursday at 12 Noon.
