HELEN HARRIS BATES of Battlefield Park Convalescent Center in Petersburg, VA departed this life on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. She was born February 13, 1935 in Amelia, VA to the late Robert Lee Harris and Estella Robertson Harris.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Baptist Church, Church Road, VA.
Helen never worked outside of the home. She was a great housewife and mother, taking care of her husband and son. She was a member of the Jolly Sunshine Club.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Gladys Shelton of Ford, VA; seven nieces, one devoted Catherine Broadnax; two nephews and great nephews; two stepsons, James Bates Jr. of Ford, VA and John Bates (Maria) of Church Road, VA; two stepdaughters, Ella Creighton of Church Road, VA and Laura Hawkins (John) of Richmond, VA; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of cousins and friends, two devoted Jerry Harris (Cora) of Ford, VA and Marie Burston of Richmond, VA. She was a kind hearted person, always giving and helping some one else.
Funeral Services Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from Union Baptist Church, Church Road, VA with interment in the church cemetery.
