Obituary for Helen M. Phillips
Helen Phillips went to be with the Lord on September 5, 2019 at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond, VA. She was born in Amelia, VA on June 23, 1940 to Pleasant and Anna Mitchell Hyde.
She joined and was baptized at Liberty Baptist Church at an early age. She relocated to Washington, DC with her sister Fannie, where she finished her education.
She was employed by the Federal Government wher she worked thirty years before retiring in 2003 and moving back to Virginia. Helen loved having people around her and enjoyed being around her family.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant and Anna Mitchell Hyde; siblings, Pleasant Jr. (Mickey), Ernestine (Tinnie), Alvin (Man), Leon and Lewis.
Helen was married to Leotis “Bud” on April 28, 1962, he preceded her in death. She did not have any children but she had a lot of nieces and nephews that she helped raised.
She is survived by seven siblings, Fannie Baylor of Washington, DC, Catherine Booker (George) of Jetersville, VA, Esther Fleming of Powhatan, VA, Anna Epps of Baltimore, MD, Sylvia Mitchell of Amelia, VA, Reginald Hyde “Dale” of Amelia, VA and Bonita Redd of Farmville, VA; one uncle, Robert Reed (Queen); eighteen nephews; seven nieces; godson and nephew, Randy Redd; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Verneicer Hyde; a host of great and great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted friends, Irene Banks of Amelia, VA and Virginia Anderson of Washington, DC. Caretakers, Jocelyn Marshall, Casey Parrish and Janet Rowe; special friends, Jocelyn, Casey, Russell, Knock , and Keith Goode.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 10am until 8pm.
Funeral Services Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church, 12901 Genito Rd., Amelia. Interment church cemetery.
