Obituary for Helen E. Jones
Helen Elaine Spicely Jones quietly slipped into eternal rest on April 9, 2009. She was born September 5, 1922 in Dinwiddie County, VA, the fifth of ten children of the late Deacon James E. and Virginia H. Spicely. Confessing Christ at an early age, Elaine joined Mt. Poole Baptist Church. Upon marrying the late Isham Eugene Jones in 1946, she moved her membership to Spring Hill Baptist Church and remained active in various ministries, including the Usher Board, until she moved to New Jersey in late 2006. She then joined Ebenezer Baptist Church under watchcare.
After completing her education in the Dinwiddie County Public School system, she worked various jobs and held many titles, among them, wife and mother, eventually retiring from the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center. She was as passionate about her baking as she was with spending time with and caring for her family.
She is survived by a loving daughter, Emma J. Johnson, two grandchildren, Rhaman and Kyle, of New Jersey; two brothers, Eddie and Preston Spicely of Wilsons, VA; three sisters, Hilda Bower, Vivian Walker, both of Colonial Heights, VA and Edwina Clarke of Hopewell, VA; brother and sisters-in-law, Fred Walker, Arlean and Millie Spicely, and Ruth Mikeal; and a host of nephews, nieces - some calling her Mom and Grandma, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of the arrangements.
