Obituary for Hazel O. Smith
On September 11, 2015 our hearts became saddened.  God called his Angel to visit our Matriarch, Hazel Oliver Smith. Hazel was born in Crewe, VA on May 15, 1912 to Junious L. and Mamie H. Oliver.
Hazel was educated in the Nottoway Public Schools.  At an early age, she moved to New York for gainful employment.  While in New York she attended various churches.  She fulfilled her lifelong dream of building a home and returning to Crewe.  After retiring to Crewe, she was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Sarah Coleman.
Hazel was blessed with one son, Clarence M. Oliver.
Hazel loved traveling.  She frequently traveled from New York to Crewe, VA to visit family and friends as well as relax and enjoy her home in Crewe.  She retired back to Crewe in June 2007.
“For if tomorrow starts without me, don’t fall apart, for I am with you, forever in your heart.”  (Author Unknown)
Hazel loved her family.  She loved to cook and work in her yard when her health allowed.  She touched so many lives and her loving ways will always be remembered.
Her parents; her son; two sisters; five brothers; one grandson; and one great grandson preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: five granddaughters, Linda (Charles) of Crewe, VA, Doris, Gracie and Nadine of Washington, DC, Clarensine of Blackstone, VA; two grandsons, Clarence of Farmville, VA and James of Washington, DC; five great grandchildren; a host of great-great grandchildren; three nieces; three nephews; five great nieces; two great nephews; a special godchild, Judge Pierre B. Turner; and a host of cousins and friends.
