Obituary for Hattie B. Hayes
Hattie B. Woodley Hayes is first a woman of God, a devoted mother, loving grandmother and the world’s best Nannie.  A native of Amelia County, Hattie, daughter of the late Martha Threatt Woodley and Noah Woodley, Sr., was born September 20, 1938.  She was preceded in death by her brother Noah Woodley, Jr.
Hattie saw the road was getting hard so she left her earthly home and went to her new home on July 13, 2013 at VCU Medical Center at the age of 74.
She was educated in Amelia County Schools and graduated from Russell Grove High School in 1959.
Hattie worked for twenty-three years at 360 Truck Plaza and later retired from Amelia Nursing Home in June 2001.
Hattie joined Union Baptist Church at an early age.  She served as an usher until her health began to fail.  For many years she helped with the food committee.
Hattie married Richard Hayes, Jr. and to this union one daughter was born.  Richard preceded her in death.
Hattie loved life and was a fun loving, caring person who touched everyone she came into contact with.  She helped raised so many children, first she raised Joyce, her only child; two sons, Leryco and Alcharver Hayes; sister-in-law, Louise Hayes; nephew, David Woodley; Jackie Fitzgerald and last but not least Jamar Coles from three weeks until her health got bad.  She also raised many more.  Hattie was well known for her cooking that everybody loved.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories:  her loving, devoted daughter and best friend, Joyce, a loving son-in-law, Hunter Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA; four grandchildren, two devoted grandsons, Leryco Hayes of New York and Alcharver Hayes of Blackstone, VA; fourteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary A. Lewis of Amelia, VA, Yvonne Bates of Church Road, VA and Francina Morris of Petersburg, VA; two grand daughters-in-law, Shanika Hayes of New York and Davidah Hayes of Blackstone, VA; five sisters-in-law, Addie Woodley of Amelia, VA, Reverend Barbara Hayes  and Mary Hayes of Petersburg, VA, Annie Goodson of Blackstone, VA and Louise Hayes of Georgia; one devoted brother-in-law, Alfus (Jack) Hayes of Blackstone, VA; two god sons, DaShawn Quarles of Crewe, VA and Jeffery Patterson of Blackstone, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
