Obituary for Harold Clinton Claiborne
Harold Clinton Claiborne, a resident of Dinwiddie County, departed this life on December 5, 2009 at Chippenham Hospital.
He was born on April 30, l948 and raised by his devoted mother Dollie Mae Claiborne. He attended Dinwiddie County Public School System where he graduated in 1966 from Southside High School. After graduating, he was employed by Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. until closing. Harold had always been a gifted and talented person who enjoyed numerous challenges. He received much enjoyment from helping others, even if it meant neglecting his own obligations. Two of Harold’s hobbies were bowling with his team in Petersburg and riding his bike where he was one of the founders of the Soul Drifter’s Motorcycle Club. He later pursued his venture as an entrepreneur and became the successful owner for over 20 years of the Country Inn Restaurant where he operated until his declining health.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Chester and a son, Shawn Claiborne.
Cherishing his fondest memories are: his wife, Michelle D. Claiborne; his step-daughter, Chelsea Harmon; mother, Dollie M. Claiborne, of Dinwiddie; sister, Bettie Perry (Benjamin) of Blackstone; three aunts, Ethel Jordan, Georgia Evans (Wesley) and Annie Claiborne; two nieces, Tandrea Moore and Angel Perry; one nephew Derrick Chavis, Jr.; one great niece and nephew; and a host of cousins and friends; mother-in-law, Yvonne Person, Virginia Beach; grand father-in law, John Green; sister-in-law, Molicia Booker; brother-in-law, Gerald Person; two niece in-laws and one nephew -in-law; a dedicated cousin, Patricia Greenhill and devoted friends, Willie Massenburg, Charlie Brown, Ben Tucker, Clarence Morgan and Sylvia Fitzgerald.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
