Obituary for Gracie Barley Wilkerson
Gracie Mae Barley Wilkerson, daughter of the late Bernice Barley and Lawrence Barley, was born December 18, 1944 in Amelia, Virginia. She departed this life at St. Mary’s Hospital on Friday, April 16, 2021.
Gracie attended the public schools of Amelia County in Virginia. Her education included a cosmetology program that led her to style the hair of many family members and friends. She later worked for herself in the domestic business.
At an early age, Gracie gave her life to Christ and joined Chester Grove Baptist Church. Later, she married Vernon Wilkerson Sr.; this union was blessed with three wonderful children.
To know Gracie was a true blessing. Many enjoyed her beautiful spirit that befriended everyone. If someone needed anything, Gracie would find a way to help. She welcomed all new friends whom were introduced to her through her children and grandchildren. To hear her laugh, was to hear a sound that would light-up a room. Needless to say, for the last few days her family has been reminded by several family members and friends about her infectious laugh.
Gracie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: Vernon Wilkerson Sr., her two daughters, Angela Bagby (Clarence) and Jacqueline Baker (James); one son, Vernon Wilkerson Jr. (Kimberly); one brother, Bobby Delaney (Shirley); one brother-in-law, Roland Wilkerson, Jr. (Prescilla), one sister-in-law, Joyce Dickerson; ten grandchildren, Charnice, Darrell, Yolanda, D’Andre, Devin, Martesia, Marquetta, Marcia, Sean and Clarence Jr., a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 2:30 pm at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home, Amelia.
